Why does renovation change the choice of ventilation with heat recovery?

In an existing building, ceilings, floors, shafts and installation space are usually already fixed. Extensive ductwork can cause remedial work, loss of ceiling height, fire-safety provisions and disruption. Ventilation in renovation should therefore not be assessed on theoretical efficiency alone, but also on buildability and everyday use.
