Why does ventilating with HRV often feel more comfortable than an open grille or window?

In cold weather, fresh outdoor air supplied via HRV can already be pre-warmed. This makes the temperature jump at the supply point smaller. The ultimate comfort also depends on placement, design airflow, air distribution, noise, commissioning and the building envelope.
