What is the difference between relative and absolute humidity?

Absolute humidity is the actual amount of water vapour in the air. Relative humidity indicates how close the air is to saturation at the current temperature. Because warm air can hold more water vapour, the same absolute amount of moisture can produce a different RH at a different temperature.
