Why is the coldest spot in a home so important?

Condensation occurs locally: wherever the surface is coldest. That can be at a thermal bridge, a connection detail, a window-frame edge or a damper part of the building envelope, for example. An average room temperature or a single RH value therefore does not, by itself, tell you whether every interior surface stays safe.
