Studios in Delft
Almost 30 newly built short-stay studios for expats and international students. Very compactly designed, with a small bedroom directly after the entrance, a beautiful bathroom, and an open living area with a small kitchen. There are no doors, except for the bathroom door.
The challenge
The challenge within this project was to make optimal use of the limited space in the studios without compromising on comfort and appearance. At the same time, the design had to meet high standards in terms of sustainability and energy consumption. In addition, the studios needed to be suitable for intensive use, with a high turnover rate of residents and stays of up to three months. An essential part of the assignment was to create a healthy and comfortable indoor climate, with a continuous supply of fresh air and efficient removal of humid air—caused in part by frequent and prolonged showering.
The solution
Fresh-r In-the-Wall units were installed in the bathroom, integrated into the exterior wall. Here, direct extraction takes place, while preheated fresh air is supplied in the bedroom. A vent at the top of the wall between the room and the bathroom creates a continuous airflow and optimal circulation. The system is demand-driven and all units are connected via Wi-Fi, giving the manager real-time insight into temperature, humidity, and air quality.
